So I’m walking downtown and a few zombies walk around the corner. I opened up with my SAW, basically cut them in half. (SAW stands for "Squad Automatic Weapon, for the record, it's a big machine gun) Technically, cutting them in half doesn’t kill them. These zombies require a headshot, but cut in half zombies pose little threat to anyone. That being said, I walked up to them, drew my 9mm and put one in each head. I call it a “finisher”. Always go with the finisher, because if at some point I got in trouble for any reason and had to come back through this street and tripped over the not quite dead zombie pieces, well, it’s a kind of irony I’m just not comfortable with.
In any case, there was one more zombie left around the corner. I holstered my sidearm and put my hand out Darth Vader-style and grabbed him around the neck and lifted him up from ten feet away. Now you can’t choke a zombie, so I actually smashed him against the building next to me head first. It took about three whacks, and the windows came crashing in with a satisfying tinkle of glass, but the zombie went limp, so I knew I had done it. It was important for me to keep my skills current, you know, sort of like “practice”. Does a quarterback only throw for the big game? Nope. He throws passes all week. So I throw zombies around to beef up. But to answer your question, yes, I have telekinetic powers. I call it the “Force” because I have no shame and also, now that the entire world has fallen into a zombie apocalypse, I’m also pretty sure that Lucas films won’t be sending any lawyers after me. I’m not saying anything, I’m just saying.
So yes, I can move stuff with my mind, though to be honest, I kind of use my hands also. Now that I have it though, it’s less of a power and more of an “understanding of physics”. I can see and manipulate matter, like air molecules, so it’s much more mundane than it seems. Though on that note, one of the basics of molecules is that if they move very quickly and have fuel, they heat up and ignite, so that’s been nice. Not having to use matches, I mean.
It’s only been a few months, so food is till a non-issue. I have a nice backpack filled with food and water and some supplies. I have a few guns and a change of clothes, and well, that’s about it. Right now I’m looking for other humans. I’ve seen some, but I haven’t been able to make contact. It seems like about fifty percent of the population turned and they killed most of the others because it was a pretty quick turn. I don’t know how it works exactly. It seems to be in the air, but I haven’t been bitten yet. It’s not something I was really planning on testing. Unlike in every movie you’ve seem, the human populace who wasn’t infected really took exception to the zombie uprising and came to play. The zombies won, but barely. It turns out that in the U.S., there are more guns than people. The people who didn’t know how to use guns learned quickly, and even someone who’s a terrible shot can hit a zombie at point blank. A lot of those people turned after they got bitten though. I don’t think it’s instant, but somehow your immune system fights it off, but when it gets too weak, then you turn. Because you don’t just turn from a bite, but people who get injured badly do also. And even injured people who aren’t bitten can. That’s what it seems like at least.
I gained my powers slowly and it took about a month to figure out. In the process, I had some head-splitting migraines, so there’s that. Worth it though, so far. Though I hope that I’m stable and whatever is happening in my head isn’t going to keep going and kill me. But, you can’t worry about something you can’t control, so I try not to.
What I can worry about is a new trick I’ve learned. I can shoot a bullet and change it’s direction. I’m not very good at it yet though, so I’ve been practicing. The new skills I have are a bit like everything else, you don’t just gain instant mastery, you’ve got to work on it. On that note, another zombie just walked around the corner. So I took a shot in his general direction and just used the air molecules to angle the bullet. I missed him by only a little bit, so I’m getting better.
I’m by this building that I know has humans in it. I’ve seen some snipers from afar and I’ve seen some shots taken. There have been a few twinklings of light at night as well, so I know someone is in there, but I do wonder how many. I also wonder if they have powers as well. So if they do, and I’m looking for humans, I’ve probably failed. I don’t think I’m really human anymore, at least not as it used to be. I suppose that technically there will probably have to be a new name for it, right? So if it used to be “homo sapien”, what could it be now? I believe the way they do it scientifically you keep the “homo” portion and modify the rest. I don’t know Latin, so maybe there’s a really cool Latin name, but for the lack of that, maybe “homo evolutus”, or “homo evolvus”? I think something to suggest that we evolved while still being alive, rather than it being the next generation or something like that. I’ll have to think on that.
